Sympathetic work in Nelson's older housing
A great deal of Nelson is stone terracing raised for the weaving trade, packed tightly along streets that climb. It is worth establishing early what serves your property alone and what does not, because it changes both what we are able to isolate and how a repair is best approached.

In a Nelson terrace the honest conversation happens before anything is ordered. Room dimensions, floor build-up and the route the waste can take decide what is realistically achievable, and a suite that looks perfect in a showroom can be entirely wrong for the space. We measure, plan the pipe routes, and only then specify.
Ceiling and floor heights are usually the limiting factor. Many of these houses have shallow floor voids and low landings, which decides whether a wet room with a genuinely level entry is realistic or whether a low-profile tray is the better answer. We would much rather explain that at the survey than discover it once the floor is already up.

Repairs and emergency plumbing in Nelson
Pipework in much of BB9 was never designed for the demands placed on it today, and it shows: pressure problems, weeping joints, radiators that never quite heat, and stop taps that shear the moment they are asked to move. Yes. We treat conservation-area properties carefully, keep external alterations to a minimum, and flag anything that may require permission before starting rather than once work is underway. If you are unsure of your own property's status, it is worth checking with the council early on.
My house is stone-built with solid walls. Can you still fit a modern shower?
Usually. Solid walls mean pipe runs have to be chased in, boxed neatly or taken through the floor, and fixings need to suit stone rather than plasterboard. It is more involved than working in a cavity wall, but it is routine for us in Nelson and it should not change what is achievable in the room.
The street is narrow and parking is tight. Is that a problem?
Not at all, though it helps enormously to know in advance. We plan deliveries, waste removal and where the van can sit before the first day, so the job is not held up. Mention access when we come out to look at the work.
